Kirstenhof police are searching for an armed man who robbed a woman of cash at Blue Route mall.
An Interpark staffer was robbed of cash at 11am, on Wednesday January 27, in the underground parking at Blue Route mall.
Kirstenhof police spokesperson Sergeant Deidre Solomon said the woman had been walking to FNB to make a cash deposit when she was approached by a man who was armed with a firearm who grabbed the money and fled with about R8 300.
Blue Route mall spokesperson Grant Elliott confirmed the incident. “While the onsite security and SAPS were quick to react, the suspect managed to get away on foot. Investigations are currently in progress,” he said.
“As the incident occurred in the covered parking, the mall management has evaluated the incident and implemented counter measures to reduce this potential risk going forward,” said Mr Elliott.
He said mall management once again asked that customers report any suspicious behaviour to the centre manager. “The safety and security of our customers, tenants and employees remain our highest priority,” he said.
Mr Elliott said a counsellor was there shortly after the incident for all parties involved. ’We have a good relationship with local SAPS, Community Police Forum, and the Victim Support Volunteers Trauma Office from Kirstenhof police station,’ he said.
Sergeant Solomon said no shots were fired and no one was injured and a case of armed robbery was opened.
FNB was asked to comment, but they did not respond by the time this story was published.
