The big guns of gospel music are preparing to serenade Khayelitsha fans in a free concert at the Mew Way Hall on Saturday March 2, from noon.
Music promoter Zakes Mithi promised the event will feature a top-notch gospel music line-up that includes Vusi Nova, Ayanda Ntanzi, Mnqobi Nxumalo, Siwaphiwe Kweyama, Jumbo, Xolisa Kwinana, Pastor Vincent Mboniswa, Nomthi Sibisi, Rofhiwa Manyanga and Sindi Ntombela, who will also share the stage with up-and-coming local artists.
Mithi said entry is free and has urged gospel music lovers to come out in their numbers.
“You do not want to miss this. It is going to be incredible. We are doing this for the (fans), for their loyalty in the genre. So if you are in Cape Town and surrounding areas you have to be there. Come and worship with us free of charge,” he said.
Zakes said he was thrilled to kick-off a new season with free, live concerts. He added that all the artists were excited to entertain their fans. “We are looking forward to welcoming gospel fans to Khayelitsha. These are people who have been behind the music. We cannot wait to worship with them and to see them live,” he said.
Among the entertainers are KwaZulu-Natal born Ayanda Ntazi who developed a love for gospel ministry at an early age and has since risen to prominence in the country’s gospel music scene. He has featured in the popular gospel group Spirit of Praise and captivated audiences all over the country and the continent with his blend of traditional gospel music.
Afro-soul singer Vusi Nova, who was born and raised in New Brighton, Gqeberha, has been nominated for several big awards. He is known for his love songs but will be serenading the audience with gospel music this time.
The organisers said there will be motivational speakers such as Evangelist Sphamandla Hlatshwayo and Bishop Nkambule. Radio personality Mphuthumi Mafani aka Putco will be the programme director of the day.
