South African alternative rock band The Awakening will return to South Africa for the first time in more than a decade for its Haunting Tour this week.

The tour will conclude with a headline performance at the Praise the LOUD Fest – Cape Town Edition on Saturday, December 6 at the Daisy Jones Bar in Stellenbosch.

Formed in 1995, The Awakening is led by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ashton Nyte. The band has released 12 studio albums and more than 300 songs. Their return follows the release of their latest self-titled album.

The tour will also feature BLVD HVNNY, the gothic-electronica project founded by Cito of Wonderboom. The project is known for its trip-hop and dark-pop sound and its reinterpretation of “The Weeping Song”.

Praise the LOUD Fest will include performances by Springbok Nude Girls, BOO!, PLUM, BLVD HVNNY and Cape Town punk-rock group Metro Villa.

This will be the festival’s first full-scale Cape Town edition.

Shows will take place at Armchair Theatre tomorrow, Thursday December 4; Brass Bell, Kalk Bay, on Friday December 6 at 5pm; and Praise the LOUD Fest, Daisy Jones Bar, Stellenbosch on Saturday December 6 at 4pm
