Hawks operation leads to human trafficking arrest of a Ugandan national in Plumstead.

An Ugandan national facing charges of human trafficking, appeared in Wynberg Magistrate court on Friday March 14.
A formal bail application for Rogers Mubiru, the 34-year-old Ugandan national has been set for Thursday, April 17.
The multi-disciplinary intelligence-driven operation that led to his arrest, rescued a minor who was trafficked at a Plumstead brothel where 12 sex workers were found.
The rescue team consisted of the Hawks based in Bellville and George, together with the Cape Town National Intervention Unit and Tactical Response.
According to Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, the arrest of the suspected trafficker on Wednesday March 12, followed a September 2024 investigation.
“During September 2024, the DPCI in the Western Cape, supported by officials from the Department of Home Affairs, visited a suspected address in Plumstead. Twelve occupants were found on the premises, of which five female persons were identified as sex workers. The person found to be managing the brothel was identified.
“During the investigation, a minor female was screened and found to be a victim of trafficking. She was handed over to the social workers from the Department of Social Development for emergency placement.
“Furthermore, two traffickers were identified, whereby warrants of arrest were authorised.
“More arrests are imminent,” says Lieutenant Colonel Vukubi.
