A swift response by the Kirstenhof Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) led to the seizure of drugs with an estimated street value of R500 000 on Thursday 10 July, following a tip-off.

According to Western Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, a 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene and appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday July 11. He faces charges related to drug possession and the possession of counterfeit money.

Lieutenant Colonel Pojie said CPU officers acted on intelligence suggesting a consignment of drugs was being delivered to a local address. “The officers, in collaboration with a private security company, tracked the delivery to a residence in Norfolk Park,” he said.

Police then searched a property in Uithof Street, Kirstenhof, where a known suspect had allegedly dropped off the drugs. “During a search of the premises, officers discovered a bag containing 1 730 ecstasy tablets hidden behind a bed. The estimated street value of the drugs is approximately R500 000,” said Lieutenant Colonel Pojie.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed that the accused appeared in court. “The case has been postponed until Wednesday 23 July, for a bail application,” he said.
