Exhibition celebrates African queens

Staff Reporter|Published

Woodstock resident Chantal Coetzee will share her research about African queens.

Artist Chantal Coetzee will host a walkabout of her solo exhibition, A Monstrous Regiment of Women, on Saturday October 15 at 3RD i Gallery, 95 Waterkant Street, De Waterkant, at 11am.

The exhibition's title is an ironic gesture at Scottish Reformer John Knox, who wrote a polemical work, "The First Blast of the Trumpet Against a Monstrous Regiment of Women". Knox considered female monarchs an aberration against God.

Coetzee proves him wrong and celebrates historically-researched African Queens in her exhibition. She will share her extensive research and tell tales about the lives of these powerful women.

Entry is free. Email 3rdi@3rdigallery.com to RSVP.
