The Ingrid Carlson School of Ballet (ICSB) in Wynberg will be holding special examinations on February 22 when five of the school’s students, including Mbongeni Moyake, pictured, will be examined by former ballerina Liljana Urosevic Da Silva who trained and excelled at the world renowned Vaganova Academy in St Petersburg in Russia. Ms Urosevic Da Silva was born in Yugoslavia, now Serbia, and during her career as a professional ballerina danced the lead roles in many great ballets. She is now a well respected teacher, who travels the world and has also taught at Cape Town City Ballet and at the National School of the Arts in Johannesburg. The work shown to Ms Urosevic Da Silva in Cape Town will be the ICSB system incorporating Vaganova principles, a specialised programme that is aimed at training talented young dancers keen to pursue a career in classical ballet. The Vaganova method is a ballet technique and training system devised by the late Russian dancer, Agrippina Vaganova.
