A 13-year-old girl from Kuyasa surprised most of her peers when she recently published her own book, titled Restoring Children… To Their Roots.
Luniko Mfunda, a Grade 8 pupil at Umanyano High School, is passionate about writing.
“I did my primary learning at Kuyasa Primary School. I always had a vision and dream of becoming an author one day,” she said.
She initially wrote the book with the intention of teaching her peers about the importance of knowing their roots.
“It is important to know where you come from, it will be easier to know what your purpose is in life,” she said.
Her mother Buyelwa was beaming with pride when publisher Tshepo Nketle of Lesedi House Inc delivered copies of her daughter’s book on Sunday.
“I never thought that this day would come but I knew she loves reading and writing. As a family we are very proud of her.”
Luniko met the publisher at The Revelation Spiritual Home (TRSH) where she is serving as intombi-nto, on the drill team and other youth activities.
Nketle was invited as a guest speaker in 2023 when Luniko approached him about her dream of publishing a book.
“I was moved when I chatted with her and I pledged to guide her and we finally worked together to achieve this,” he said.
He said Luniko’s book will encourage more young children to take an interest in literature.
