Pillay named Cape karate sportsman-of-the-year

Western Cape Karate senior sportsman-of-the-year, Myuoor M Pillay, from Fish Hoek.

Fish Hoek’s Myuoor M Pillay, 19, was named Western Cape Karate senior sportsman-of-the-year in December.

This followed a busy 2024 that saw him crowned champion at the African Karate Federation Region South championships held in Swakopmund, Namibia, winning gold in the under-21 male Kata division.

He was also part of Team South Africa that represented SA at last year’s World Cadet, Junior and under-21 Karate Championships in Venice-Jesolo, Italy.

This was a World Karate Federation event with over 1900 athletes from 109 countries competing.

He was crowned champion after winning a gold medal in the under-21 male kata division at the 11th Commonwealth Karate Championship, in Durban, in November last year.
