An investigation is underway following the robbery.
The New Year started badly for a Constantia Hills couple who were held up in their home by four knife-wielding men.
The couple were watching TV in their Richmond Way home when they were confronted by the intruders at 11pm on Thursday December 31, according to Kirstenhof police station commander Lieutenant Colonel June Marman.
The men tied the couple up with rope then ransacked the house, taking laptops and cellphones worth R50 000.
The victims were left unharmed. The robbers are still at large. Detective Sergeant Donivan Pietersen is investigating the case and be contacted at 021 702 8900.
• Tracing operations by the Kirstenhof detective branch over the festive season led to the arrest of seven people for outstanding warrants for crimes including domestic violence, shoplifting and fraud and to fines of R15 000 for curfew contraventions.
• There was an increase in fraud-related cases over the festive season, according to Kirstenhof police spokeswoman Sergeant Deirdre Solomon.
“The victim sees an ad online and makes contact with the seller. The victim is asked to deposit money but never receives the goods,” she said.
Shoppers should confirm all details and payment with the bank before releasing the merchandise, she said, adding that law-abiding entity would ask for a PIN or OTP.
• Thieves stole a pensioner’s bank card at a Tokai ATM then took R22 000 from her account.
According to Sergeant Solomon, the Princess Christian Home resident was using the FNB ATM at Tokai Junction when she noticed the man who used the machine before her had apparently left his cellphone behind. She called to him and he returned to collect it. While speaking to him, another man took her bank card. Both men then fled. The woman alerted her bank immediately but money was drawn from her account in the few minutes it took the bank to freeze it. Call Kirstenhof detectives at 021 702 8900 if you have information.
