Police investigate business robberies

Diep River police are investigating two business robberies in the Plumstead, Southfield area.

On Monday April 19, at about 4.25pm, an armed man held up a liquor store on the corner of Casino and Victoria roads, Plumstead.

Diep River police spokesman Constable Zak Marais said the owner had been packing stock onto the shelves when a man had pointed a gun at him and demanded money. The thief was joined by another man who helped himself to liquor. Both thieves left the store in a white sedan.

On Wednesday April 14, at 5.45am, a man entered a car-battery centre in Victoria Road, Southfield and asked about a job. He then pulled out a gun and demanded the owner’s cellphone. Security officers apprehended a 30-year-old man when he fled the premises waving what turned out to be a replica gun.
