Plumstead Neighbourhood Watch will be holding several events to celebrate Plumstead’s 260th anniversary this year.
The watch is also celebrating its 15 years of operation under the provincial Department of Community Safety, although it has been around much longer.
One of the organisers, Jenny McCalgan, said they were looking for small, home-based businesses to support a car rally and scavenger hunt they have planned.
“The idea is for them to have a table outside their homes on days of the events so they can promote what they do, at no cost, no ties,” she said.
For the scavenger hunt, watch members will be sent a document with picture blocks and word blocks, which are clues to places in the neighbourhood. If they can find all 16, they stand a chance to win 12 months free monitoring with National Security, a weekend away for two people at The Nook in Fish Hoek or a beauty voucher from JEM Hair and Beauty at 3 Arts Village. They must send their answers to watchadmin@mypnw.org.za before Monday April 25.
The car rally will take place on Sunday August 28 and contestants will have to follow clues to find historical places in Plumstead.
The watch is searching for the oldest person in the community to celebrate the anniversary with them. So far, Margaret Ellis is turning 104 on Friday April 29, but if there is anyone older in the neighbourhood, they want to hear from them.
In November, there will be a 24-hour “patrolathon” to promote the watch.
