Sharon Sampie, of Southfield, is the new president of the Bergvliet Lions Club.

Ms Sampie took over the reins at the home of the club’s outgoing president, Jane Renaud, in Plumstead on Sunday July 16.

The club gave Ms Renaud a Louis Volks Humanitarian Award for her community work.

“The club has been serving the community since 1969 and has earned a reputation for being extremely well managed,” said Ms Sampie. “In spite of being quite small, we’ve managed to organise projects relating to various causes, including hunger, childhood cancer, diabetes, environment and vision.”

Ms Sampie said she hoped to grow the club’s membership during her year as president.
