The national commissioner of police, General Fannie Masemola, is overseeing countrywide operations as police arrested more than 75 000 suspects since the launch of festive season anti-crime operations in October.
The police ministry, including Minister of Police Bheki Cele, was expected to visit different locations in the Cape Metro on Friday as part of festive season operations.
These locations included a multidisciplinary parade in the Cape Town CBD at 8am and proceeded to Athlone Magistrate’s Court, Junxion Mall in Browns Farm, the Liberty Promenade Mall in Mitchell’s Plain, a roadblock in Spine Road, Muizenberg Beach and proceedings will close at the V&A Waterfront this afternoon.
“Heightened police visibility in the form of roadblocks, stop-and-searches, foot and vehicle patrols in public spaces including taxi ranks, malls and beaches is the order of the day throughout the busy festive season and beyond,” said national police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.
Western Cape police previously said three adult males and two females were arrested when they were caught with drugs with an estimated street value of R200 000 in Citrusdal on Thursday.
