The 35-year-old inmate who escaped from Pollsmoor prison while part of a work detail on the prison grounds on Sunday has been caught.
The Department of Correctional Services said Yanga Wayithi was apprehended at about 1.30am on Wednesday February 12 following a joint law enforcement operation.
He was back in custody at Pollsmoor and would face additional charges related to his escape, said Correctional Services national commissioner Makgothi Thobakgale.
"We remain resolute in ensuring that all offenders are held accountable and that public safety remains our top priority," said Mr Thobakgale.
The circumstances surrounding the escape were being investigated, and the prison’s security measures were being reviewed to prevent similar incidents in future, he added.
