AS THE Northern Cape prepares for the 2025 State of the Province Address (Sopa), law enforcement agencies have assured the public that all necessary security measures are firmly in place.
The highly anticipated address, to be delivered by Premier Zamani Saul on Thursday at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre in Kimberley, will see a strong security presence to ensure the safety of all attendees.
According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien, the Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (PROVJOINTS), comprising multiple law enforcement agencies and government departments, has been meticulously planning for the event. Led by the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Security Committee has outlined a comprehensive strategy to safeguard high-profile dignitaries, invited guests, and members of the public in and around Kimberley.
Security measures will be enforced at key locations, including the convention centre and surrounding areas, to maintain order and prevent any potential disruptions. Authorities have issued a stern warning against any criminal activity, stating that any attempts to disrupt the event will be met with the full force of the law.
“Contingency plans are in place to react to any eventuality that may occur prior, during and after the Sopa,” said Brigadier Gamieldien.
Traffic Disruptions and Road Closures
Motorists and residents should be aware of temporary road closures that will be in effect on Thursday morning. The affected routes, including West Circular, South Circular, Green Street, and St Augustine Road, will be closed from 10am to 11am to accommodate security measures and event proceedings.
Law enforcement officials will be deployed in the area to manage traffic flow, and motorists are urged to follow their instructions and make use of alternative routes where possible. Authorities have called for patience and co-operation from the public during this period.
