The 3rd Bergvliet Girl Guides marked 115 years of Girl Guides worldwide by sharing cupcakes with the 1st Cape Peninsula Rangers on Tuesday, September 2.

The Girl Guides movement began in England in 1910 and has since grown into a global organisation nurturing young girls.

District Commissioner of Cape Peninsula/Bergvliet Girl Guides, Cheryl Stuart, said various activities had been held in recent months to celebrate the 115-year milestone.

“We picked up 115 pieces of litter in the local park, collected 115 bottle tops and made a collage on our new floor, walked either 115 steps or kilometres, and read either 115 pages or 115 books,” she said.

She added that the group also played games from 115 years ago and completed a welfare project, filling 500 bags for Project Flamingo, which supports breast cancer patients.
