A devastating fire broke out at Restorabilia, a well-known business in Bergvliet, on Thursday, October 16. Firefighters battled the blaze, and investigations into the cause are still underway.
Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City’s Fire and Rescue Service, said firefighters had been on the scene after being called out at 6.40am.
The extent of the damage is still being assessed, but early indications suggest that much of the premises and its valuable contents were destroyed.
According to its website, Restorabilia was founded in 1983 by Nick and Marcelle Harding. The business began as a passion project - sourcing and restoring vintage furniture to its former glory. Over time, it evolved into a leading custom furniture design studio in Cape Town, specialising in bespoke, handcrafted pieces that reflect both timeless craftsmanship and contemporary style.
Mr Carelse said: “It looks like the fire caused substantial damage to the property. At this stage, no one has been reported injured.”
The Constantiaberg Bulletin contacted Restorabilia for comment and was advised to email questions. At the time of going to print, no response had yet been received.
