Ward 63 Councillor Carmen Siebritz is pledging to continue to work well with her constituents throughout 2026.
The ward covers areas like Fairways, Plumstead, parts of Wynberg, and Ottery.
Ms Siebritz said she is looking forward to a year of growth, brighter opportunities, and shared successes.
She would like to continue her swimming programme at Wynberg Pools, teaching the seniors how to swim, though she would like to expand it more inclusively by bringing on board amputees or differently-abled community members.
“This, of course, requires additional and trained staff, and with that comes funding,” she said.
Ms Siebritz said she will be reaching out to the Department of Community Services and Health for assistance.
In her 2026/2027 ward allocation budget she will be looking at projects like the upgrade to Sussex Road Park in Wynberg, traffic calming in Golf Links Estate, a Christmas tree in Fairways which is the only area in the ward that still doesn’t have its own, Pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera in Fairways, Early Childhood Development resources, and Ward Law Enforcement Officer.
Ms Siebritz said that Ward 63 will also continue its School Career Exhibition for Grade 12 pupils, which was a big success last year. This year, they are planning to have two of these exhibitions, one which would be for Grade 12s in March, and then the Grade 10s and Grade 11s will have one in August.
Some of the challenges that Ms Siebritz would like to work through in her ward include homelessness in Wynberg East.
“As difficult as it is to manage, I think it’s important that we continue to try and remedy the situation as best as possible,” she said.
Ms Siebritz said she will continue to call upon the Street People's Unit, Department of Social Development, Law Enforcement, Metro Police, and the police to assist with controlling and curbing the situation. She also commends private security and local neighbourhood watches, who assist whenever they can.
She urges her constituents who have any service- related concerns to log a service request pinned to all area-based WhatsApp groups, making it easier for residents to find and log independently.
Ms Siebrits also made a WhatsApp group available to residents for service requests only.
“In this group, residents will post all requests logged, and that have not been attended to within the Service Level Agreement, which is usually between 24 and 48 hrs, unless of course, it’s an emergency,” she said.
