The Bob Mowday Band will be having a fundraising concert on Saturday, February 14, in Hout Bay to raise funds for the South African Riding for the Disabled Association (SARDA) non-profit.

The band, based in Wynberg, will be performing many different genres like swing, pop, rock ’n roll, with some hits from Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé, Billy Joel, Elton John, film music, and show music.

Band founder Bob Mowday said that the band consists mostly of amateur and professional performers who play woodwind instruments, including alto sax, tenor sax, and baritone sax. Also included are flutes, bassoon, brass instruments like trumpets and trombones, plus a tuba, as well as piano, bass guitar, and drums.

They have chosen SARDA as their charity. “The choice of the charity is often suggested by a band member who may have a favourite,” he said.

Mr Mowday said all funds raised from this concert will be given to the charity.

SARDA spokesperson Bee Lukey said their non-profit, based in Constantia, continues to offer free therapeutic horse riding lessons to children and adults living with physical and intellectual disabilities. “There is an increased demand for this form of therapy as the number of diagnosed persons living with disabilities is on the rise. SARDA Cape Town relies on its own fundraising initiatives,” she said.

Ms Lukey said that SARDA is grateful for the support from the Bob Mowday Band, who generously give superb and fun-filled concerts for free to charities. “They are wonderful musicians, and the audience feels the expertise and love the band puts into every performance,” she said.

The Bob Mowday Band fundraising concert will take place at the Amphitheatre, Mainstream Shopping Centre, Main Road, Hout Bay, on Saturday, February 14, from 3pm until 5pm.

Tickets cost R150, and you can buy tickets by emailing capetown@sarda.co.za or calling SARDA at 021 794 4393 during office hours. Please email SARDA with your name, surname, and the number of tickets required.
