The Cape Peninsula District Girl Guides celebrated a milestone on Tuesday, February 17, when new members were officially enrolled at the Girl Guide Hall in Bergvliet.
District Commissioner Cheryl Stuart expressed her excitement at welcoming so many new members into the organisation. The enrolment included eight girls moving up from Brownies to Girl Guides, two Guides advancing to Rangers, and one Ranger progressing to the Youth programme.
The Cape Peninsula District comprises the Bergvliet Teddies, the Bergvliet Guides, and the Cape Peninsula Rangers and Youth, offering girls opportunities for growth, leadership, and community involvement at every stage.
A highlight of the event was Bergvliet Girl Guide Katie Fletcher unveiling her Chief’s Award and moving up to the Cape Peninsula Rangers. Katie earned the award at the end of last year after dedicating numerous hours to earning badges and completing community service.
“It is an amazing experience to finally have this Chief Award,” she said. “I had to put in a lot of work gaining my badges and putting in many hours of community service.”
Now stepping into her new role as a Ranger, Katie will take on added responsibility as a mentor and role model to younger Girl Guides.
“Guiding is a close-knit organisation where all girls become like family,” she said.
