A Westlake man who runs a feeding scheme in the community is appealing for public support.
Arthur Koeberg is asking for donations of vegetables and gas cylinders. Volunteers are also needed.
Mr Koeberg said he registered the Westlake Gains feeding scheme three years ago, running it mostly from his own pocket with support from friends who donate food and second-hand clothes.
“I sometimes use 9kg gas cylinders or 16kg, which last between 20 and 22 days because I cook six days a week from which I feed about 70 people a day,” he said, but added that more people had been approaching him for a meal during the festive season as other feeding schemes were closed.
“Besides cooking, I also do surfing programmes with the kids and also take them for hiking in the mountains. We also pass indigenous knowledge to the kids about plants, herbs and mountains,” said Mr Koeberg.
