A Nelspruit security company director has been arrested after he allegedly sold firearms, including rifles and pistols, to another security company before falsely reporting them as stolen.
The arrest was made by members of South African Police Services (SAPS) Organised Crime within the Detective Services in Mpumalanga.
The 53-year-old suspect is accused of perjury after filing a false report of firearm theft, despite being fully aware that the weapons had been lawfully sold.
Law enforcement later discovered that the firearms in question had been sold to a legitimate entity, which had duly registered them, making it impossible for authorities to confiscate them.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said the alleged actions of the accused pose a serious threat to public safety and the integrity of the law enforcement process.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on March 5
"More charges could possibly be added against the suspect as the investigation continues," said Mdhluli.
Acting commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the investigative team for uncovering the irregularities and stressed the importance of firearm control, particularly given their frequent use in violent crimes.
"The SAPS in Mpumalanga remains committed to upholding the law and ensuring that justice is served," he said.
We urge members of the public to report any suspicious activities or irregularities related to firearms to the authorities.
