There has been a sharp increase in robberies in the Wynberg area in recent weeks, police say.
Wynberg police spokeswoman Captain Ntombi Lindipasi urged the public to be vigilant in the area.
“The subways, taxi rank and surroundings of Wynberg CBD are the known hot spots for these robberies and where most of the crimes are reported,” she said.
Police had increased patrols in the area during peak hours in the morning and evening.
“We urge the public to refrain from using/displaying their cellphones, wearing earphones and listening to music while walking. This is also inciting these perpetrators as they can easily target the person,” she said.
“We also urge the public to avoid walking alone, to report these crimes and to help the police by providing as much information as possible in order to help them identify the suspects.”
