Hazel Scott lived in Bergvliet for many years.
The final curtain has fallen for Hazel Scott, a doyenne of theatre and musical entertainment.
She passed away peacefully on August 29 at the wonderful age of 99.
Hazel was born in London to a family heavily involved in theatre and, when she arrived in Cape Town with her husband Bob and daughters Pamela and Dorothy after the war, she immediately became involved in amateur dramatics, mostly in Bergvliet where they lived.
She performed in a countless number of productions for the Bergvliet Dramatic Society and the Gilbert & Sullivan Society. Later she and her family also performed in many Shakespearian productions at Maynardville.
Loving singing, she became a member of the Cape Performing Arts Board (CAPAB) opera chorus and performed in countless operas for over 10 years.
In her retirement she was involved with a theatrical and musical group called The Companions that gave pleasure to many, especially those in senior citizen homes.
Hazel adored her family who, in turn, adored her. She will be greatly missed by her daughters Pamela and Dorothy, son-in-law Tony, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
