Matrics beat the odds in spite of pandemic

South Peninsula High top five achievers, Fatima Schloss (7 distinctions), Lindiwe Traut Naidoo (8 distinctions), Tharwa Joseph (7 distinctions), class teacher Dana Marinus, Donica Jacobs (8 distinctions) and Caitlin Benjamin (7 distinctions)

South Peninsula High School achieved a 98.1% pass rate, with 168 pupils - 81.7% of them - achieving bachelor passes, up from 95.2% and 70.1% in 2019. Principal Zeid Baker attributes this year’s success to the hard work of pupils and teachers, and the support of parents. He also believes that the broad curriculum offered at the school allowed students to excel in subjects that they enjoy doing.

The top pupil was Lindiwe Traut-Naidoo with 93.3% and eight distinctions, followed by Caitlin Benjamin with 91.3% and seven distinctions.

Norman Henshilwood’s matric class of 2020 achieved a 97.6% pass rate National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam and an 87.4% bachelor pass rate - up from 2019’s 94.4% and 69.8% respectively.

The top pupils are Zahrah Khan with a 90.14% aggregate, Ammaaarah Isaacs 88.29%, Zameera Adams 88%, Michaela Adams 88%, Shaune Ferreira 87.86%, Emma Davies 86.29%, Gabrielle Cyster 86%, Azhar Mugjenker 83.57%, Imraan Mughammad Rahbeeni 83.29%, Isra Manuel 83% and Moegayudeen Allie 82.86%.
