When people talk about unforgettable dog characters in movies, South Africa will be proud to know they have their very own contender: Mr Miyagee. This pint-sized pup with an oversized personality is not just a brand ambassador, social media favourite and dotsure.co.za family member… Now, he has added “movie star” to his list of credentials by making his big-screen debut in the latest South African movie, Semi-Soeter currently streaming on Netflix.

“Watching him grow into one of South Africa’s best-known pet stars has been nothing short of extraordinary,” says his owner, Lindi Pieterse. “He’s an emotional support pet, animal rescue advocate, and brave fighter who inspires people daily.”
His journey to recovery after health struggles has made him a symbol of resilience. “The public’s support turned some of our toughest days into bearable ones. We never walked this path alone,” Lindi adds.

When producers began searching for the right dog actor to play the canine character Rolex, Mr Miyagee stood out immediately. “The moment we saw him, we all knew. He was meant to be Rolex,” recalls producer, writer, and lead co-star Anel Alexander. “He was professional, easy-going, and one of the best-behaved dogs I’ve ever seen in film. I think we’ll see an entire generation of dogs named Rolex, thanks to him.”

Mr Miyagee barked that he loved every minute of filming. “Finally getting to bark in my own language was beyond cool,” he jokes. “The cast treated me like family with cuddles, snacks, and laughs. It was a proud moment to show that a small pup can shine on the big screen.”
Of course, filming had lighter moments, including one scene where Mr Miyagee’s boundless energy nearly sent him flying into a pond.
With his debut in one of the most talked-about South African romantic comedy movies, our four-legged celebrity's future looks bright. “Hollywood? Definitely. Fast and Furry with Vin Diesel? I’m there. Why chase cats when you can chase the spotlight?”
For now, fans can catch him in Semi-Soeter, generating buzz and proof that sometimes the smallest stars steal the biggest scenes.
Watch Semi-Soeter and see why Mr Miyagee is one of the most lovable dog characters in movies today.
