Roma Elias, of Claremont, has been inducted as the new Tokai Lions Club president.
Ms Elias has been part of club for 17 months and took over from Mark Rossouw, who was the club president for the past two years.
“I am honoured to be the new president, and I will work passionately on projects to raise awareness and to support victims of gender-based violence,” said Ms Elias, who also works for a Salt River furniture company and runs a house-sitting agency.
The club helped children, the elderly and the less fortunate, she said, adding that she would also like to include animal-welfare causes during her term as president.
The club is collecting baby clothing, blankets, nappies and vests that it will deliver to maternity hospitals for mothers in need.
