The woman who was gunned down near Wynberg Magistrate’s Court, on Thursday morning May 25, was a witness in a murder case that is still under investigation, say police.
Wynberg police spokesman Captain Silvino Davids identified the dead woman as Catherine Gumira, 31.
The shooting happened on the corner of Church Street and Brodie Road, at about 10.45am, according to provincial police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie.
He said she had been walking in the street near the court when she was approached by gunmen who started shooting at her, wounding her fatally. She was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
“The motive for the killing is part of the police investigation. Police have not narrowed down possible suspects at this stage,” said Captain Davids.
