Melinda Lottering, 1st Bergvliet brownie pack adult leader
This January, the 1st Bergvliet brownie pack celebrates an incredible milestone: 75 years of nurturing young girls through achievement and service.
Since its registration in January 1950, the pack has welcomed hundreds of girls aged 7 to 10, offering them a space to meet new friends and thrive.
The celebration is particularly special as it coincides with the 115th anniversary of guiding in South Africa and worldwide, marking over a century of empowering girls and young women through the guiding movement.
The 1st Bergvliet brownie pack has long been a cornerstone of the community, where girls engage in a variety of enriching activities. From camping and hiking to earning badges and selling biscuits, the brownies have embraced a spirit of exploration and personal growth. The group also “thinks of others“ with members participating in litter clean-ups, recycling drives, and other community service initiatives.
Brownies can earn the prestigious Golden Hand Award, which is reserved for the brownie who completes all eight adventure badges and four level badges before hosting a special tea for her adult leader and invited guests. This award is not just a celebration of individual accomplishment but also a testament to the values of perseverance and discipline instilled in every brownie.
The 1st Bergvliet brownie pack invites the community to join in celebrating this remarkable occasion as well as welcoming more young girls to join this vibrant group.
