Greenwood Athletic Football Club’s dominance in the junior divisions was awarded with trophies in four divisions in the Cape District Football Association Knockouts at the weekend.
Greenwood’s boy’s under-12A, under-14A, under-16A and girls’ under-14 were crowned the winners in their respective divisions.
Greenwood's under-10B lost 1-0 to Ashford Football Club. The under-12A team won 2-0 against Salt River Blackpool.
The under-14 girls’ team won 1-0 against Salt River Blackpool. Under-14A boys’ won 2-0 against Grassy Park United. Under-14B lost 4-2 penalties after a 1-1 draw against Santos.
The under-12 and under-14 teams won a treble and were unbeaten this season.
The under-16A team showed dominance with a 7-1 over Grassy Park. Under-18 lost 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw against Salt River Blackpool.
Coach of the under-12 red team at Greenwood, Desmond Jacobs said the future looks bright for their junior teams.
“It did not go exactly as we planned but we were 2-0 up and we won the game. I am excited for the boys. It’s a treble win now. They put in the hard work in training. They showed me today, they came up for the task,” he said.
Jacobs’ red team won the league, grand challenge and the knockouts of the CDFA finals.
“Most of them are going up next season. We have four to five of them that are first year so they were up for the challenge this year,” he said.
Youth chairperson Raymond Brickles said Greenwood won 12 trophies this season, including five league, three grand challenges and four knockout trophies.
“A big congratulations to all the coaches and all the hard work they’ve displayed this season,” said Brickles.
