World champion surfski paddler, Peninsula Canoe Club's (PCC) Kenny Rice recently teamed up with Ron Benjano and club juniors Shellan Jefferies and Hanna Solomon, from Marina da Gama, in PCC’s 10km K4 Challenge, at Zandvlei to help raise funds for the club’s junior paddlers who have been selected to represent South Africa at world championships later this year.

Rice and his team beat fellow world champions Uli Hart and Mark Keeling, along with Carla le Roux and junior Ozzy Stead, in a two-lap race across the vlei and then through the Marina canals and back to the club.

Rice was runner-up in the SA Surfski Champs held in April (Nick Notten took the win), and then 2 days later the two of them teamed up to win the Freedom Paddle on 27 April, which doubled as the SA Surfski Doubles Champs. Rice, Notten and Hart will represent South Africa at the ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Champs to be held in Durban, in October.

Peninsula Canoe Club has a big contingent of junior boys and girls and seniors men and women who have been selected to represent South Africa on the world stage at various events, including the  International Canoe Federation (ICF) Marathon World Championships in Györ, Hungary, Ocean Racing World Championships in Durban and the European Sprint Regatta in Racice, Czech Republic.
