False Bay RFC in Constantia is a hive of activity as the 2024 season approaches.
The past few weeks have seen the recommencement of pre-season training, with healthy numbers of players working hard at getting themselves properly prepared for the season.
The False Bay Women’s team also kicked off their season with their first training session on Monday. Coach Zoe Naude, recently appointed to the national panel of referees, continues to build the momentum in this sector.
The Bay Men embarked on their annual spirit builder/breaker at the SA Naval Diving School last weekend. Put through their paces by diving instructors, the players were tested and taunted by the challenges and at the end of the day’s work, went on to relax and enjoy each other’s company in a far more relaxed manner afterwards.
While the women could be heard from within the clubhouse, now operating as The Toad at The Bay, the Club’s Club100, renowned rugby journalist and biographer, Gavin Rich, engaged in conversation with Springbok’s head of athletic performances, Andy Edwards who is widely recognised for his role in preparing the squad for the Rugby World Cup in France last year. Apt in a way, as the occasion was postponed because of the surfeit of activity at the club in October, and this formed a bonus gathering for 2024.
Members of Club100 are invited to three meetings in a season, and the quality of speakers lined up for the year continue in the Edwards vein. His insight regarding the preparation and commitment of the squad was not only entertaining but helped guests understand just how much forethought, preparation and work went into this campaign by the entire group front and back end.

False Bay’s pre-season Friendly programme is expected to start in about four weeks.
