The Rotary Club of Wynberg handed over eight boxes containing over 2500 packets of instant soup mix to the Women of Westlake's Aunty A's Community Kitchen on Thursday July 3.
The soup mixes were donated by the Waterfront Rotary Club for distribution by Rotary Clubs within the province.
Some of these soup packages were distributed as far as Swellendam, providing meals to hundreds in need.
The Rotary Club of Wynberg’s conservation services director, Stacy Edwards, said her organisation has a long standing relationship with the Women of Westlake's Aunty A's kitchen and their daycare centres. “Which has seen the planting of vegetables and installation of a JoJo tank at the Aunty A's premises to catch rain water for watering the food garden during the dry months," she said.
Founder of the Women of Westlake non-profit organisation, Anthea Thebus, said they were grateful for the donation of instant soup. “As an organisation we depend on donations,” she said. Ms Thebus said her organisation provides a feeding scheme from a shipping container in Westlake where they would provide daily meals to around 150 to 200 beneficiaries who visit their shipping container with their own containers.
